In olden times, climbing into the sky was only attainable by finding magic beans and then selling them to buy a blimp. Fly retro-style with this Groupon.
Choose Between Two Options
$99 for a 30-minute flight experience over the Metroplex for one person in a Douglas C-47 (a $230 value)
$189 for a 30-minute flight experience over the Metroplex for two people in a Douglas C-47 (a $460 value)
Rides can be scheduled between Friday, June 1, and Thursday, June 28. During each 30-minute flight experience, pilots soar over urban and rural locales as passengers are transported back to the 1940s in a fully restored military transport plane used in World War II. Riders don ear protection to combat the plane's nearly 1,500-horsepower twin engines and can explore the plane's interior and take photos from the windows. Riders also receive a Greatest Generation Aircraft patch, and can have a souvenir photo taken professionally. Flights seat up to 16 passengers.
Greatest Generation Aircraft
Originally a TWA aircraft, the Southern Cross Douglas C-47 was adopted by the Army Air Corps to shuttle troops to the front. The twin-propeller plane survived World War II and in the ensuing years underwent a series of makeovers. Its career includes years spent as a reliable set of wings for Delta Airlines, a troupe of skydiving enthusiasts, and at least one head of state. The C-47 is now meticulously restored to its original WWII-era condition and in the dutiful care of Greatest Generation Aircraft, a nonprofit organization that introduces 21st-century crowds to the C-47 during rides and aerial shows. Flying out of Fort Worth's Meacham International Airport, the C-47 also shares a hangar with a B-25 bomber and other veteran planes.
